Happy New Year everyone!
January 9, 2008
As usual I started the New Year with training in Clermont Florida with the University of Windsor Lancers Track team. It was a good week but an eye opener as well. Certainly not in the kind of shape I want to be in. With starting Boiling Point in 07 it did make me miss a workout here and there and it was just a weird season for me. My track times were slow yet I won my first Canadian Championship (5000m) and had my best finish at the prestigious Rolling Rampage 10k Road Race in Toronto in June (4th).
I think my track days are numbered and I’ve made up my mind to focus on the Marathon in 08. How many will I do I’m not so sure but the main focus will be around Chicago in October. During the training camp I met or saw a lot of famous athletes. One day I see this guy walking at me in the gym and it was Allen Johnson (multiple Olympic Gold Medalist, 110m hurdles) and we saw Canadians Tyler Christopher (400m) and Pierre Browne (100m). The new US Speed King Tyson Gay was also around. Another day I was admiring a very fit woman’s bicycle and we got to talking. She looked familiar but we never really introduced each other. Sure enough it was Canadian triathlete Lisa Bentley (3rd Ironman World Championships 2006). She and I shared greetings and smiles throughout the week as we would see each other in the pool and I had wondered if it was her yet never asked. Regardless she and her husband were very nice!
At this point I’m geared up to shred some winter body fat and get my body ready to handle bigger mileage and then when April rolls around I will follow a similar 6 month plan that got me in 2:26 shape back in 05 when I won Maui.
